What is Artful Aging?
Artful Aging is a segment of Christie Creates, LLC. that provides the elderly with an opportunity to tap into their creative sides. Artful Aging, aims to provide high-quality art classes to seniors residing in assisted living facilities and senior living communities . Artful Aging classes include drawing, painting, mixed media projects, etc.
Our Story
CEO and founder of Artful Aging, Christie Lauture, has worked in an assisted living facility for 2.5 years and was an assisted living manager for 2 years. She has spent a lot of time caring and talking to the elderly and learned that they exhibit high levels of depression and self image issues. They all go from taking care of themselves, to having strangers take care of them and on top of that, not being able to remember things, including regular daily activities. This takes an immense toll on their mental health and Christie thought to herself: how can I cheer them up? Christie was on a mission to remedy this and she did it the only way she knew how: with art. Christie noticed a change in behavior when doing activities, specifically creative activities. From coloring, drawing or painting, she would design activities based off of their skill level that they could complete, without having to feel insecure about their dementia and other issues.
The residents would cheer up completing these activities and that was when she knew she needed to share it with others.
